DeAnn T. Fricker (nee Pfiester), age 84, of Fort Wright, KY passed on Thursday, November 2, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. DeAnn was born May 18, 1933 in Carroll, IA, where she was Drum Majorette in her high school marching band. In 1951 she left her small Iowa town to attend Tobe-Coburn School for Fashion Careers in New York City and worked as a Stylist with the Ford Modeling Agency. In 1955, she married Paul Fricker and moved to Cincinnati where they raised five children. DeAnn owned and managed The Colonial Shops in Silverton, Mariemont and Western Hills from 1975 to 1995. She was a member and sacristan at St. Antonius Church in Covedale until 1970, a member of St. Vivian Church in Finneytown until 2000. In 1983, DeAnn graduated Lay Pastoral Minister from Athenaeum of Ohio and lead the ministry for Sunday Communion at Good Samaritan Hospital for 20 years. In May of 2010, after 37 years of volunteering, DeAnn formally became an Associate in Mission with the Sisters of Charity Cincinnati Community. In 2000, she and Paul retired to Sunman, IN, and built a family retreat. She later moved to Atria Highland Crossings in Ft. Wright, KY, where she continued her sacristy work and led the Rosary daily. DeAnn loved family and always had a full house; she was host mother and grandmother to 16 exchange students from 8 different countries. She was constantly entertaining, cooking, and decorating for any occasion. She shared her love for arts and crafts with anyone who wanted to participate. DeAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Fricker, mother, Inesa O’Connell and brother, George Pfiester. DeAnn is survived by her children, Marcie Gunkel (nee Byers) of New Smyrna Beach FL (Rick), Mark Fricker of Indianapolis IN (Diane), Teresa “Tammy” Bedinghaus of Ft. Mitchell KY (Dan), Michael Fricker and Mitchell Fricker of Sunman IN (Janet). She was known as Gar to her 15 grandchildren. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Middendorf Funeral Home in Ft. Wright, KY from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Agnes Church at 11:30 AM.
