Dr. Robert E. Hemmer

Dr. Robert Edward, 88, of Fort Mitchel, KY, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday morning, October 18th, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Mary Patricia (Wolf) Hemmer, his sister Lois Shannon, and his 9 children: Robert C. (Lisa) Hemmer, Guy (Kathy) Hemmer, Mara (Tiger) Huston, Ken Hemmer, Jeanne (Ken) Oleynik, Vincent (Sheila) Hemmer, Ruth (Jim) Eliassen, Paula (Henry) McIntosh, Maria (Alex) Doyle and 17 loved grandchildren. Dr. Hemmer was preceded in death by his brothers Jack, Paul and Bill, and his sister Mary Martha Curtin.  Dr. Hemmer was born on September 27th 1929 in Covington, KY, to John and Josephine Hemmer.  He graduated from St. Xavier High School and completed his undergraduate degree at Xavier University. He continued on to medical school at the University of Cincinnati, followed by a residency in Pediatrics at the Louisville Children’s Hospital. He was a Captain in the Air Force stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert in California. He served on the staff at St. Elizabeth and Children’s Hospital.  He worked for several years in the allergy clinic at Children’s Hospital and became board certified as an allergist.  Dr. Hemmer dedicated his life to the health and wellbeing of the children of northern Kentucky. His commitment to serving the community as a doctor was a reflection of his strong faith in God.  He was a long time and grateful member of St. Agnes Parrish. Dr. Hemmer was a captain of sailing and soaring. His passion was sailing the seas with his beautiful wife, family and friends on his sailboat the Cat-Can-Do and he taught his children and grandchildren to sail. He treasured bringing the entire family together for vacations each year. He loved playing tennis, golf, and a good game of poker. He was a member of the Fort Mitchell County Club where he enjoyed celebrating many family events. He was a loving husband, father, and pediatrician and is greatly loved by his 17 grandchildren.  Visitation will be held at St. Agnes on Thursday, October 26th from 4-6pm followed by mass at 6pm.  Memorials and donations can be sent to St. Agnes Church at 1680 Dixie Hwy, Fort Wright, KY 41011, Catholic Charities at 3629 Church St, Covington, KY 41015, Sisters of Notre Dame 1601 Dixie Hwy, Park Hills, KY 41011 or the charity of your choice.
