Brian Andrew Schafer, 27, of Edgewood, Kentucky, passed away suddenly on June 17, 2017 after several years struggling with mental illness. Brian loved life, enjoyed the outdoors and positively impacted the lives of many, and his passing leaves a hole that can never be filled. Brian’s fun-loving personality and contagious sense of humor could light up a room, and his keen intellect enabled him to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Brian graduated in 2008 from Covington Catholic High School where he played on the golf, basketball and football teams, was president of the Bug Club and dedicated to community service. He was a member of Cov Cath’s 2006 state champion football team. Brian matriculated to the University of Notre Dame from which he graduated in 2012 with a Bachelors of Business Administration degree. While at Notre Dame, Brian enjoyed many extracurricular activities, excelling particularly at Bengal Bouts boxing and Bookstore Basketball. Brian is survived by his loving mother Nancy Schafer, his father Mike Schafer, brothers Daniel Schafer and Stephen Schafer, beloved dog Kelsey, grandmother Alfreda Sheft, ten uncles and aunts, and 27 cousins, all of whom will miss his beautiful smile and wonderful laugh. Visitation will be held Friday June 23,2017 from 4:00 pm until 7:00pm at Middendorf Funeral Home 3312 Madison Pike, Ft. Wright, KY 41017. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday June 24, 2017 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Edgewood, Kentucky. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery. Middendorf Funeral Home in Fort Wright is handling the arrangements. The family has requested memorial donations in lieu of flowers to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Northern Kentucky Chapter, 303 Court Street, Suite 707, Covington, KY 41011.
