Sister Mary Joanne Lutkenhoff

Sister Mary Joanne was born on August 15, 1929, in Covington, Kentucky. Her parents, Edward and Anora Byron Lutkenhoff, raised five children, two boys and three girls. Joan was the oldest. Her family resided in Bellevue, Kentucky, where sister attended Sacred Heart School, Our Lady of Province Academy, and St. Anthony Commercial School. After her schooling sister became inspired by the Sisters of Notre Dame. At the age of 27 she joined the Sisters and made her profession of vows on August 16, 1959.After Sister professed her final vows, she began ministering as a childcare worker. She served in this role for twenty-four years, most of them at the Diocesan Catholic Children’s Home. After her years in childcare, Sister Joanne lived in various convents where her service consisted in cooking nutritious meals for her sisters and assisting in the local schools. In 2008 sister retired to Lourdes Hall Care Center. She continued her love for preparing meals by helping the kitchen staff weekly. Her quiet nature exhibited the simplicity of her commitment to God and her community. Sister is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, James and Reverend Bernard Lutkenhoff, and her sister Dorothy Lutkenhoff. She leaves behind her sister Virginia Stiers and her sister-in-law Mary Lou Lutkenhoff. Sister is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at the Provincial Center, followed by the Wake Service at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 7:00 p.m. in the Convent Chapel .Interment will follow 8:30 a.m. Mass on Friday June 9, 2017, in the Convent Cemetery.
