Howard Alfred Pauly. Born on April 1, 1923. Died 94 years later on May 4, 2017. Howard is survived by Marian Franxmann Pauly, his devoted wife of nearly seventy years. He is also survived by four of his five children: Nancy (Thomas) Brinker, Bob (Brenda) Pauly, Jim (Carol) Pauly PhD, and John (Julie) Pauly. His beloved eldest son, Thomas Pauly MD (Julie), preceded him in death, as did his three siblings: Alberta and Glenn Pauly and Sally Duncan. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law, Betty (Boots) Pauly. Howard answered to many names: Poppy to his grandchildren, Uncle Hoot to his nieces and nephews and Hap to his friends and colleagues. His was a life of self-discipline and service. To his family, he was a role model, valued advisor and a relentless provider. To his country, he was a willing, brave and proud Army Corporal. Howard was a member of the renowned 85th Infantry Division, 329th Battalion and a Bronze Medal recipient. To his community, he was a solid and giving citizen. He served leadership roles in his Church (Blessed Sacrament) and at his children’s high schools (Notre Dame Academy and Covington Catholic High School). To his treasured home of Fort Mitchell, KY, he was an elected City Councilman for 19 years and briefly served as Interim Mayor. He retired from the Sentry Life Insurance Company in 1984 after thirty years of dedicated employment. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church (2409 Dixie Highway, Fort Mitchell, KY) on Tuesday evening, May 9th at 6:30 pm. Visitation precedes the Mass beginning at 4:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Covington Catholic High School Scholarship Fund in honor of Howard Pauly or Hospice of St. Elizabeth Healthcare.
