Marvin W. “Bill” Backus, age 69, of Villa Hills, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017. Bill was a very active, passionate manager in the machine tool industry. This led to his long time, honorable membership in The Oriental Order of Groundhogs. He was the Vice President of the Die Mold Division of Makino. He was also a volunteer for every Tall Stacks Festival since its inception in 1988 as the manager of Land Operations. They were hectic days getting where they were supposed to be and he loved the challenge. Bill felt it was important to give back and be involved in his community. He spent over twenty years volunteering at the Red Cross and The School for the Creative and Performing Arts. But most of all Bill loved and cared for his family. He leaves behind his loving wife of over 13 years Leslie Backus (nee Kaplan) and her daughters, Jennifer Overholser (Joseph) and Erin Anderson (Stephen). He was a beloved Boppo of Katelyn and Olivia Overholser and Riley, Sophie, and McEwan Anderson. He also leaves behind his niece, Sarah Souder (Christopher) and brother-in-law, Robert Detrick, and many cousins. Bill is preceded in death by his brother, James Backus and sister, Nancy Detrick. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by A Celebration of Life at 12 noon at MIDDENDORF FUNERAL HOME, 3312 Madison Pike, Ft.
