Edward J. Shannon

Edward J Shannon, age 87, of Fort Mitchell, passed peacefully away on November 24, 2016 after a year’s battle with brain cancer. Ed was a loving husband to Lois Ann Hemmer Shannon for 60 years and a devoted father for 59 years to his twin sons, Michael Edward Shannon and Daniel Patrick Shannon. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Patricia Shannon, and preceded in death by the late Grace and John Shannon. Ed was a graduate of Newport Catholic High School where he played football, baseball, basketball, and was on the wrestling and boxing teams. He proudly served as a Combat Engineer for ten months in Korea, and upon his return enrolled in Villa Madonna College (now Thomas More College) for two years, and later finished with a degree in Philosophy and History. Ed was employed as a Sales Manager for over 30 years at American Greetings Corporation, where he achieved “top salesman awards” every year, and became a “Lifetime Pacesetter.” He loved playing football, basketball, and baseball with Mike and Dan and their friends, then later coaching their baseball teams. Ed and Lois Ann both enjoyed their time together square dancing, ballroom dancing, and traveling the world. Ed was always the “Life of the Party” and everyone loved him for his unique personality, and his ability to lift their spirits by his many jokes. “Our Irish Elf,” as nicknamed by a dear friend, will be missed by family, including many nieces and nephews, and his numerous friends. A Visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church 2409 Dixie Highway, Ft. Mitchell, KY 41017. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6:00 p.m. and following Mass there will be a reception in the Church Undercroft. Entombment at Saint Mary Cemetery, in Ft. Mitchell.
