Charles “Charlie” B. Pieper Jr., age 81, of Fort Mitchell, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016. Charlie was the loving father of Anna Marie “Ree” Pieper and Christopher Pieper (wife Lisa). Loving brother of Sr. Emmanuel Pieper OSB, Carol Ryan, and the late Charlotte Kowalik. Beloved grandfather of Luke and Benjamin Pieper and Brandon Brown; and dear Uncle of Colleen German, Kerri Kraus, Jeff Kowalik, Tamara Eastlund, Kent Kowalik, the late Kevin Ryan and the late Jacqueline Franklin. Charlie is also preceded in death by his parents, Charles B. Pieper, Sr. and Anna C. Frey Pieper, his son, Stephen Xavier Pieper, and his brothers-in-law, John Ryan and Thomas Kowalik. Charlie graduated from Xavier University and then served in the U.S. Army overseas. Afterward he returned to Xavier University to complete his Master’s Degree in Education. Charlie taught for 2 years at Villa Madonna Academy before going on to teach at LaSalle High School for 30 years, and becoming that schools first baseball coach. His students often spoke highly of him, occasionally showing up at his home during the summer months. Charlie was an avid horse racing fan and after retiring, worked at Turfway Park until the time of his passing. He made a final trip to Keeneland this past week. His love of Xavier basketball and lifelong passion for politics were a constant part of his life. However Charlie’s greatest joys in life were spending time with his family and most of all his grandchildren. Ben and Luke were the most important part of his world. His kindness and generosity to one and all were the most outstanding of his many endearing qualities. The number of individuals that he cared for and helped throughout his life far exceeds his number of years on this Earth. His absence will leave a hole in the lives of many friends, near and far. Whether you knew him by Charlie, Peeps, Bros, Hon, Goat, Pops, or Dad, you will forever be left with many fond memories of Charles Pieper. Charlie was a life time member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
