Jean S. Higgins

Jean S. Higgins, age 91, of Crestview Hills, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 7, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Sam and the late Mamie Spruiell, sister of the late Charles Edward (Bud) Spruiell, and wife of the late Ray Hilton Higgins. Jean leaves behind her daughter, Jeanette Hodges (Kris), son, Ed Higgins (Cyndi), grandchildren Valerie Hodges Ramp (Tom) and Kirt Hodges (Diane), and great-grandchildren Leah and Nate Ramp and Everly Hodges. Jean was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, majoring in Latin and minoring in Greek and Spanish. Her post-graduate study was conducted at the University of Mexico at Mexico City and the University of Tennessee. Jean taught Spanish and Latin for many years at Fulton High School and Holston High School in Knoxville. After retiring, she became a teacher of homebound students. Her dedication to her profession and her joy of teaching endeared her to her students. Throughout her long, rich life, she served the Lord and was a witness to all who knew her. In any situation, good or bad, she always said, “Let’s pray about it.” With her beautiful soprano voice, there is no doubt that she is singing among the angels. Visitation will be on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 2551 Dixie Hwy, Lakeside Park, KY from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. with a Celebration of Life service immediately following. Memorials can be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church.
