Martin “Mote” Hils passed away peacefully at home on Friday. Mote was retired from Northern Kentucky University, where he started the Athletic Program and was the first coach of the men’s basketball team. He began his career as a teacher and coach at St. Henry and Covington Catholic High Schools. Mote was 81 years of age and is survived by his loving wife Kathleen Hils (nee Barton). He is also survived by his loving children, Kathryn Hils (Gregory Morris), Lori Hils, Michael Hils (Dawn), Jeffrey Hils (Roni Ann), Jennifer Petro (Donny), and seven grandchildren. Dear brother of Jude Hils, M. David Hils, and Joyce Blanchet. Visitation Wednesday from 9:30 am until 11:30 am at St. Peter and Chains Cathedral in Cincinnati. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 am. Burial is at Spring Grove Cemetery. Middendorf Funeral Home in Ft. Wright is handling his arrangements.
