Ronald G. Beagle

Ronald G., of Sacramento CA, formally of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky died peacefully at home on Tuesday September 8, 2015 at the age of 81. Ron was born in Hartford, CT on February 7, 1934 to J.C. and Marie R (Burma) Beagle (nee Bernabucci). He attended Purcell High School in Cincinnati, were he was very active in football, graduating in 1951. He then attended Wyoming Prep School in PA, graduating in 1952, and then went on to the United States Naval Academy graduating with the class of 1956. While there he received numerous awards and accolades playing football. In 1954, he was voted All-American and was awarded the Maxwell Trophy for college player of the year. At that time, he was also 7th in the running for the Heisman Trophy. Ron was also very active playing lacrosse and became a two-time All-American midfielder. During the 1954 season, Ron was presented the NCAA sword for excellence in athletics. After graduation from USNA, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp at Okinawa and Camp Lejeune. At the end of this service, his former USNA football coach drafted him to play for the Oakland Raiders. Unfortunately, a knee injury precluded his professional football career. In 1986, Ron was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Ron then went on to a successful career with Butler-Johnson Corporation, a wholesale distributor which served Northern California and the NV areas. In his spare time, he was a referee for high school football in the Northern California Area. A celebration of his life was held on Saturday, September 19th, and his cremains will be entombed at the United States Naval Academy on Wednesday, October 14th at 11:30 a.m. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 56 years, JoAnn Jones, who was a Navy nurse, two daughters Lisa Morrison, of Sacramento, Ronda Syring (Jim), of VA, and a son Joseph Charles II (Lisa), of California; brothers Jerry, of Villa Hills KY, Tony (Christine), of Euless TX, and Rick (Elena), of Baltimore MD, and a sister Mary Lou Westling (Mike) of Ft. Wright KY; and three grandchildren Glynnis and Archie Morrison, and Tyler Syring.
