William E. "Mike", Shipman passed away on December 20, 2013 at the age of 88. He was the beloved husband of the late Margie Jones Shipman. Loving father of Barbara (Steve) Tackett, Kathy (Harry) Deel, Karen (Jerry) Landwehr, Michael (Lori) Shipman, Linda (Stephen) Holderness, Keith (Connie) Shipman, and Brian Shipman. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Brother of Jim (Sylvia) Shipman of Houston, TX and the late Mary Louise (George) Heine and the late Verna Schmeing. Mike was a WW II US Navy veteran which he served on the LST 226. He was an avid boating enthusiast. He was a licensed Riverboat Captain, a member of the Ohio River Launch Club and the US Navy LST Association. He was active in many community organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Police, the Kenton County Police Reserves, the Independence PD and the Latonia Lakes PD. He also served as a volunteer firefighter and officer on the Sandfordtown & Community Volunteer Fire Department and the Southern Hills Volunteer Fire Department. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Church, Taylor Mill on Friday, December 27th. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be at St. Cecilia Cemetery, Independence. Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 3229 Burnet Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45229; or Hospice of the Bluegrass, 7388 Turfway Road, Florence, KY 41042.
