Sister Mary Caroline Hemmerle, SND, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2013. Sister was born on July 24, 1925, in Southgate, Kentucky. She belonged to a large family having four sisters and five brothers. She attended St. Therese Elementary School and the Academy of Notre Dame of Providence in Newport. In 1944, she entered the convent of the Sisters of Notre Dame and professed her vows on August 13, 1947. Sister Mary Caroline held degrees in secondary education in math and the sciences. For thirty-five years she taught at Notre Dame Academy in one or several of these fields: chemistry, biology, health, math and/or religion. Sister was in community service for several years at Notre Dame Academy and St. Joseph Heights in Covington. She also ministered for four years in Carrollton, KY and was an adoration sister at the congregational center in Rome, Italy for two years. Sister is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Margaret Hemmerle; her brothers, Robert, William, David, and John. Sister leaves behind her brother Elmer; and sisters Jeanette McCormack, Sister Mary Margaret Agnes Hemmerle, SND, Laverne Neltner, and Mary Momper, 30 nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews. Visitation begins at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the Provincial House, St. Joseph Heights, followed by a Wake Service at 5:00 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. in the convent chapel. Interment will be Thursday morning, November 14, 2013 in the convent cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Memorials are requested to the Sisters of Notre Dame, 1601 Dixie Highway, Park Hills, KY 41011.
