August (Gus) W. Meier, age 100, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022, Erlanger, KY. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Ursula Halenkamp Meier, his parents August and Katherine Meier, grandson Kevin Meier, as well as his siblings Norma, Edward, Charlotte Bailey, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Allen Meier, John (Jack), Thomas, and Mary Margaret Tenkotte. Gus is survived by his children Terry Meier (Cindy), Marlene Moehlman (Gerald) and Stephen Meier (Jane); grandchildren Tim and Julie Meier, Bryan and Teresa Meier, Kim and Jim Puthoff, Shauna and Nathan Sybert and Matthew and Alison Meier and 11 great grandchildren and sister Helen Topmiller. Gus is a 1940 graduate of Covington Catholic High School. He joined the Army on Thanksgiving Day in 1942 and was assigned to the 175 Infantry in Sandy Hook, New Jersey. During WWII, Gus landed on Normandy Beach in France on D+6. While on the front lines outside St. Lo, France, Gus was severely injured by a bomb blast and was transported back to England for recovery. As a result of his injury, Gus was awarded a purple heart. Gus worked 47 years at Motch Jewelry Store in Covington, KY as a watch maker and store manager. After retiring from Motch’s, he and Ursula ran a jewelry business out of their home for 20+ years. Gus enjoyed socializing in many clubs including the Hilltoppers, Golden Age and Pathfinders. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 3rd at St. Augustine Church, 1839 Euclid Ave. Covington, KY 41014 from 10:00 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Entombment at St. Mary Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed by a memorial contribution to the St. Augustine Church Roof Fund, 413 West 19th St. Covington, KY 41014.
