Daniel R. Sidebottom passed away Monday, January 15, 2024, at the age of 72. Daniel grew up in Edgewood, Kentucky, where he was one of seven children born to William Sidebottom and Betty Sidebottom. He attended St. Pius elementary as a child and is a graduate of Dixie Heights high school.
Dan or Danny, to his friends, who was anyone who he ever met, worked in custom lighting sales and custom lighting design for over forty years. He had provided lighting designs to some of the most unique homes and churches in Northern Kentucky. Dan had to retire a few years earlier than expected after suffering a serious knee injury that severely affected his health and mobility the last few years of his life.
Danny was an incredibly gifted, self-taught, guitarist and singer, who began playing in bands as a teenager, and then later, solo, throughout his life. He had the rare ability to hear any one song and learn to play it within five minutes of listening to it. Danny was known for playing music on the weekends at the old Gatehouse Tavern restaurant throughout the 80s and early 90s. Gatehouse was a popular hotspot and Danny made many lifelong friends there, ranging from former WWF wrestlers to some local NFL players who mistakenly thought that their football prowess allowed them to get up on stage with him and sing. After the Gatehouse closed, Danny continued to play music at the local restaurant scene up until his knee injury limited his mobility. And if you ever listened to Danny sing, you always got treated to his engaging personality and witty sense of humor. Danny knew every bad Dad joke, some good jokes, some partially funny jokes, and even some dirty jokes, which were frequently mixed into his time on stage.
Danny loved his children and his grandchildren. He coached all his kids in soccer and softball when they were young and loved nothing more later in life than doting on his grandchildren, who he “loved with a bushel and a peck, a hug around the neck”.
Daniel is survived by his wife of over fifty years, Janice G. Sidebottom (nee Hall); children, Shane C. (Christina) Sidebottom, Corey B. Sidebottom and Casey (Gary) Jennison; grandchildren, Brandon Sidebottom, Emma Sidebottom and Danica Jennison; siblings, William Sidebottom, Mark Sidebottom, and Susan Grefer. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Patty Sidebottom, Sara Sidebottom and Martha Campbell. As Dan always told his kids that “you can never have too many friends”, he also leaves behind countless friends he met throughout his life. Visitation is Saturday, January 20th from 11:00am until time of service at 1:00pm at Middendorf Funeral Home, 3312 Madison Pk. Ft. Wright, KY 41017. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice.
