Donald E. Cummings, age 96, of Fort Wright, KY, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025. Born and raised in Covington, KY, Don was the son of Charles Cummings and Loretta Sandhas Cummings. He graduated from Holmes High School and went on to attend classes at University of Kentucky, Villa Madonna College (now Thomas More University) and Xavier University.
Don served during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. He would go on to take over Cummings Brothers Masonry Contractors based in Covington from his father, Charles, along with his partners, brother, Tom, and cousin, Tom Colvin. Don also served as President and a member of the Board of Directors of Kentucky Federal Savings and Loan Association for many years.
Don loved to fish and enjoyed many weekends at his camp in Warsaw, KY, on Craig's Creek fishing with his brother, Tom. Additionally, he was a huge fan of UK college basketball.
A faithful and devout Catholic, Don was a Parishioner of St. Agnes Church in Ft. Wright, KY and also attended Blessed Sacrament Church in Ft. Mitchell, KY, and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Warsaw, KY. Don passed peacefully, having received the sacrament of the Sick and Dying.
He is survived by his devoted children: Patrick Cummings (Diana), Jim Cummings (Debbie), Bill Cummings, Bob Cummings (Connie), Tim Cummings (Rae), John Cummings, and Julie Cummings Schultz (Mark); his loving stepdaughter, Mary Ann Muth Hugg; and stepson, Pat Muth. He was a grandfather to Emily, Lindsey, Chrissy, Michael, Ryan, Erin, Jackie, Kayla, Marcus, Ellie, and Holten, as well as four step-grandchildren. He was a great-grandfather to Ava, Eli, Collin, Claire, Clay, Sydney, Evan, Ruthie, Hailey, Blake, and Oakley, along with three step-great-grandchildren. Don is also survived by his dear sister, Patsy Cummings Steffen, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marian Zeller Cummings; his second wife, Marge Muth Cummings; and his brother, Tom Cummings.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at St. Agnes Church from 10:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11:30 AM. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial donations are suggested to the Macular Degeneration Association by clicking the link below.
