Gayle D. Wells

December 11, 1943 — September 5, 2024

Hebron

Gayle D. Wells (nee Davis), 80 years of age, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 5, 2024 at her residence with loved ones at her side. Gayle was the loving wife of Henry A. Wells for 56 years. Loving mother of Sean Durkin Wells (wife Christy), Robert Davis Wells (wife Karen), Karen Brooks Hendrix (husband Eric), and Cynthia Wells Deatherage (husband Mike). Loving grandmother of Holly Hendrix, Tori Wells, Amelia Hendrix, Joey Wells, Katie Hendrix, McKenzie Deatherage, Sophia Wells, Jeff Deatherage, and Nikki Wells. Dear sister of Robert Davis, Glenn Davis, and Chris Bradburn. She was preceded in death by her parents Vera and Robert Davis. She graduated from McNicholas H.S. in 1961. She attended the University of Cincinnati and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1965. She met a strapping pediatrics resident named Henry, and they were married at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital chapel on March 2, 1968. They subsequently lived for 6 years in New Jersey, 2 years in Philadelphia including the bicentennial year of 1976, and then returned to the Cincinnati area, settling in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, in July of 1977. They had their last child and joined Trinity Episcopal Church that same year where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and made many lifelong friends. She also volunteered at the Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky and served on their Junior Board. Gayle cared deeply for her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, and grandmother. She also loved painting and ceramics and often attended classes at the Baker-Hunt Art & Cultural Center in Covington with her children, and later obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Thomas More College in 1993. Her later years have been filled with a glorious mix of caring for her grandchildren and teaching them to appreciate the arts, family vacations, playing tennis and attending social events at Ryland Lakes Country Club, cheering on the Reds and Bengals, and attending as many of her grandkids’ school and sporting events as she could. Visitation will be held at 8:30 am on Saturday, September 21 followed by 10:30 service at Trinity Episcopal Church, 326 Madison Ave. Covington, KY, 41011. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, KY. In lieu of flowers, our family suggests donations to the Trinity Episcopal Church Book of Remembrance, Alzheimer’s Association, or to Hospice Care of St. Elizabeth.
