Margaret Ann Butler (nee Tobin), age 85, of Fort Mitchell, KY passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2024, surrounded by her family. Margaret was born to the late Clarence and Alice Tobin (nee Gudgel) on August 20, 1939, on the Tobin Farms in Minerva, Kentucky.
Margaret attended Villa Madonna College and graduated with a degree in Education, later completing her Masters work at Northern Kentucky State College. While at Villa, she met her future husband, Charlie, whom she married in 1962. Together they welcomed two children to their family and spent their entire married life in Ft. Mitchell, KY, as members of Blessed Sacrament parish. Margaret had a deep faith and special devotion to the Blessed Mother. Margaret spent her career as an educator, teaching first graders for more than 30 years, much of that time at Beechgrove Elementary. Her true vocation was helping children learn to read, a passion she carried well into retirement.
A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Margaret will be remembered as taking her greatest joy from spending time with, and hearing about the exploits of, her family and friends. She could be counted on for her warm smile and being quick to laugh at a story. Her generous spirit was most notable when making sure that everyone was well fed or had just the right gift during the Holidays. Margaret developed a deep love for Ireland while traveling there with friends and was a long-time member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. Her passions included reading biographies and mysteries, playing Rummikub with family and friends, eating at The Greyhound Tavern and cheering for Kentucky Wildcats basketball.
Margaret is survived by her loving children, Charles Butler (Christine) and Julie Moellering (Keith); grandchildren, Reid (Mary-Katherine), Nina, Charlie, Lila and Lucy; brother-in-law, Thomas Butler (Rose); nephews, Tommy Butler(Tammy), Mike Butler (Andra), Gary Butler (Gina) and Andy Reynolds (Sandra). Margaret was preceded in death by her dear husband, Charles Butler (1988) and her sister, Barbara Sue Tobin Reynolds Follis (2023).
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Church from 8:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Passionists Nuns, 1151 Donaldson Hwy. Erlanger, KY 41018 and/or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
