Ft. Mitchell. Mary M. Hemmer.
Passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at the age of 97 years.
She was born on June 8, 1924 in Covington to the late Alfred and Agnes Nienaber. After graduating from Villa Madonna Academy, she went to Saint Elizabeth Nursing School and became a registered nurse. In 1948, she married her childhood sweetheart, the late Paul W. Hemmer Sr. They had 58 wonderful years together during which time they raised 8 children. Life in the Hemmer household was full of laughter, adventure and fun, with a strong focus on faith and education.
Mary was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Parish where she was a Eucharistic minister and a school volunteer. She was also involved in many prayer groups and religious organizations such as Legatus. Mary had many interests including golf, playing cards, and traveling. She and Paul visited many countries and went to all 50 state capitals. Mary would most want to be remembered as a devout Catholic who shared her faith with her friends and family.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Hemmer, Sr. and a brother, the late John Nienaber. She is survived by her children, Sharon A. (the late David E.) Gay, Susan M. (Marc) Neltner, M. Lisa (Chris) Pieper, Paul W. (Mary) Hemmer, Jr., Dr. David S. (Oana) Hemmer, Donald M. (Julie) Hemmer, Michael J. (Fran) Hemmer and Jon J. (Laura) Hemmer. Also survived by 31 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 14th from 3:00 until 5:00, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2409 Dixie Hwy. Ft. Mitchell, KY 41017. For those unable to attend, the Mass will be live-streamed on Blessed Sacrament Church’s website at http://www.bsky.org.
